Bull Dog, Bulldog, Bully, Bully breeds means: A charicteristically stocky, broad shouldered dog whose name refers to the old English “sport” of “Bull-Baiting”. Bull baiting was a wagered game where one or more dogs were compelled by training or other means to attack a bull (or bear, or boar) that was oftentimes lashed to a post. The intent of the attack was to suffocate the creature, be it bull, bear or boar, by “locking on” to it’s or snout until death. A horrific “sport” and one that gave the Bully breeds bad associations that unfortunately survive to this day.
